Create a new logo design for IBTC
developed for IBTC
The whole process from start to finish was painless, and the techniques Brand Glue used to sort our brand direction going forward was informative, clever and even fun. We now have a fantastic logo and design that fits the brand perfectly and communicates exactly what we do.
Nat Wilson, CEO
- Create a new logo design for IBTC, the International Boatbuilding Training College, and its different geographical locations.
IBTC has, up until now operated from Lowestoft. The college delivers hands-on traditional boatbuilding courses, and has a reputation globally as a centre of excellence for learning the craft of traditional boatbuilding in the modern world.
Its future lies in expansion, creating new training sites in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Bucklers Hard. With many different stakeholders and locations, as well as a need for a long hard look at the branding strategy to match up with its class-leading teaching facilities, we needed to get the brief and direction right first.
- To get to the heart of the IBTC brand, and set the right direction for design of the new logo we conducted a workshop with the top management team and Trustees.
This allowed us to pull apart all the different influences, stakeholders and organisations that work with IBTC as well recommend how far the brand could be pushed from its beginnings. It gave all involved a clear sense that while this was a traditional boatbuilding college, the teaching approach and facilities are modern and class-leading.
With this in mind we set about creating a modern and bold logo that reflected the traditional boatbuilding skills IBTC offer. In formulating the brief we also concluded that a strong colour would also set the brand apart in a sea of all-blue logos in this field.
We created various options and worked through the chosen route ensuring it worked for IBTC as the main brand, as well as for its 3 individual geographic locations.
